Clarion's 2010-2011 Season Highlights:
Clarion is coming off a banner year, which included our Lincoln Center debut under the direction of Steven Fox, about which the Wall Street Journal wrote: "The superb Clarion Choir...skillfully led by Steven Fox...sang with purity of tone and ensemble precision."
Following this successful debut, Clarion was immediately invited back to join Juilliard's Axiom Ensemble in a rare performance of Morton Feldman's Rothko Chapel as part of the Lincoln Center Scope Festival. Anthony Tommasini of the New York Times called the performance, “pensive and mystical” and said, "The calm, sensitive performance…conveyed the simplicity and directness of this wondrously restrained music", and Jake Cohen marveled in Consequence of Sound, "…it was the Clarion Choir’s accuracy and blend that transformed this performance into a transcendent experience."
At our wonderful new venue for sacred music, Park Avenue Christian Church, Clarion performed Bach Cantatas for Christmas ("… a performance as perfect as the one tonight had my mind racing", Stan Metzger, Seen and Heard International) and Handel's epic oratorio Judas Maccabeus with a star cast of soloists ("Mr. Fox led his small, polished choir and a robust period-instrument band in a brisk, carefully balanced reading, and had the benefit of a solid, well matched cast of soloists." -- Allan Kozinn, The New York Times).
Clarion deeply appreciates the funding that so generously supports our 2012 season.
