The Clarion Choir joins violinist Lili Haydn, guitarist Mak Grgic, The Neave Trio, composer Kitt Wakeley, Soprano Sangeeta Kaur and Tenor Brian Giebler for an evening of captivating melodies and inspired compositions at the Church of the Heavenly Rest on 5th Avenue.
The Clarion Choir will be performing Requiem of Light, is a newly-composed a cappella Requiem Mass by Patti Drennan.
At its core, the work follows the traditional structure of the Latin Requiem—a sacred liturgy for the departed. Yet Requiem of Light reaches beyond the liturgy, exploring the very human terrain of grief, memory, and hope. Unlike many settings that rely on orchestral grandeur, this work is rendered entirely a cappella, showcasing the raw expressive power and unity of the human voice.
From the fierce urgency of Dies Irae (“Day of Wrath”) and Libera Me (“Deliver Me, Lord”) to the radiant calm of the Introit (“Grant Eternal Rest”) and In Paradisum (“Into Paradise”), the music charts a path from sorrow to solace.
Drennan’s intricate twelve-part harmonies and double-choir textures create a vast sonic landscape that demands exceptional clarity and control from each singer. These elements are mirrored visually in the album’s hand-drawn stained glass cover, a symbolic rose window where each ring illuminates a movement through original iconography.
Requiem of Light will be released on Friday, August 15, 2025 across all major platforms and in physical editions including CD and limited-edition vinyl.
